COVID-19 Policies & Protocols
Sequoia Senior Solutions values the health and well-being of our clients and employees above all else. We have developed a caregiver training program as well as specific procedures and protocols to help reduce the risk of infection for our employees and the seniors we serve. In addition to our industry-leading assessment and home inspection process, Sequoia Senior Solutions takes a 3-pronged approach to addressing Covid-19:
1. Caregiver Consistency
During the pre-care process, special care is taken to assign a caregiver who has the experience to meet the needs of the client as well as interests and traits that will best match their personality. This allows for greater consistency, which is crucial during a time when exposure to new people should be limited for at-risk populations. We also do our best to limit each caregiver to a maximum of two clients, and to limit the number of caregivers that a client interacts with to two.
2. Caregiver Training
Sequoia Senior Solutions’ caregivers are specifically educated on dealing with Covid-19, including:
- How the virus is spread, the symptoms, and how to break the chain of infection
- Common infection control challenges in-home care and how to address them, including dealing with pets, pests, and bodily fluids
- Sanitization and germ reduction practices
- The 5 steps of handwashing
- Proper usage of personal protective equipment
- The difference between standard and transmission-based precautions
3. Caregiver Safety Protocols
Each caregiver is trained to stay alert for symptoms and adhere to protocols before, after, and during each shift:
- Pre-shift: Prior to clocking in, each caregiver certifies they are fit for duty by completing a health questionnaire, including whether they have a temperature. Caregivers who cannot certify will not be sent to a client’s home.
- Start & end of each shift: At the start and end of each shift, the caregiver sanitizes the surfaces in the home, does a supply inventory, and follows handwashing protocol.
- During Shift: Each caregiver wears a face mask during the entirety of the shift and continuously washes their hands to help prevent infection.
